Relax In A Hilltop Cabin Overlooking The Blue Mountains

Nothing says ‘Blue Mountains’ like a cosy cabin complete with a roaring fire, timber panelling, and a place to enjoy the stunning view.

You’ll find all this and more at Hilltop Cabin, the latest accommodation offering from Logan Brae Retreats, run by wife and husband Asia Upward and Sam Edwards. Logan Brae Retreats is an extension of the couple’s nearby apple orchard, Logan Brae Orchards, which has been in operation for over 100 years.

For Hilltop Cabin, Asia and Sam bought an existing bed and breakfast with plans to create the ideal alpine escape. Every element is now oriented towards the incredible view from the highest peak in the Kanimbla valley, from the stone bath, to the outdoor deck, and plunge pool!

Hilltop Cabin started as an existing bed and breakfast that Asia and Sam bought in 2021. The bones of the cabins and lodge were in great condition (having been designed by a local architect Graham Johnson in 1999), but there was potential to optimise the view and update the interiors. Asia Upward and Sam Edwards are experienced in the world of hospitality as the owners of both Logan Brae Orchards and accommodation offshoot Logan Brae Retreats

Hilltop Cabin is one of four accommodations the couple have created under the Logan Brae Retreats name, all of which are located in the Blue Mountains.

Hilltop Cabin started as an existing bed and breakfast that Asia and Sam bought in 2021. The bones of the cabins and lodge were in great condition (having been designed by a local architect Graham Johnson in 1999), but there was potential to optimise the view and update the interiors.

Incredibly, Asia and Sam transformed the property in just three (mid pandemic!) months with Shane Hines Building thanks to their renovating experience and problem solving.

Renovations saw the original corrugated iron walls and small timber windows replaced, while retaining the existing building shape and roof line.

Asia was inspired to emulate the feel of her family’s orchard as well as American log cabins such as Ralph Lauren’s ranch in Colorado. The cabin balances these influences with mid-century inspired furniture and luxury additions including a stone bath and outdoor plunge pool.

Expansive views of the mountain ranges with its granite boulders and local wildlife are now the first thing guests experience at Hilltop Cabin.

‘The cabin sits at the highest peak in the area and the perspective you have from the property is out of this world,’ says Asia.

‘Sometimes the way you envisage something and how it turns out are two different things, but in this case, it’s exactly how I imagined it. Both my husband and I continue to be wowed every time we are there.’

Located about two hours west of Sydney, Hilltop Cabin is a wonderful base to explore the Blue Mountains region, or simply to relax the day away in the pool or bath.
