A Landmark Inner-City Sustainable Home In Melbourne Is On The Market!

Earlier this year we brought you the story of the Davison Collaborative, three couples (all built-environment specialists) who joined forces to transform one post-war suburban dwelling in Melbourne’s Brunswick into three sustainable homes.

For one of these couples, Peter Steele and his partner Sarah Kearney (with 10-month-old Amelia in tow), 2020 has been a catalyst to make a long-discussed move to the Surf Coast happen. Which means that one of these highly covetable townhouses is now on the market, looking for a like-minded new owner whose values align with the Davison Collaborative concept.

Close to Anstey Station in Brunswick, nearby local hot spots like Oven Street Bakery, Kines Coffee, and all the spoils of Sydney Road, the location is about as good as it gets. Homes like this don’t come along everyday people – get on it!

It’s not often that the opportunity to live in an architect-designed, top-rated sustainable home comes up. A newly finished three-bedroom, two bathroom townhouse that is part of the incredible Davison Collaborative is on the market, and its current owners are looking for a like-minded buyer to appreciate the values and mission of the concept.

The Davison Collaborative is the project of an architect, a sustainability consultant and a project manager, who came together to realise a new way of sustainable living. Instead of buying three separate dwellings, the built environment professionals joined forces to create a development model allowing access to highly sustainable homes in well-connected inner-city areas, in a transparent and considered way.

One of the three couples involved in the original project are Sarah Kearney and Peter Steele, co-founder of HIP V. HYPE’s sustainability consultancy and recently Head of Commercial at GreenSync. As is the case for many people, COVID-19 has caused the couple to reassess their lifestyle and future, deciding to make the move down to the surf coast to raise their young daughter.

A massive focus of the Davison Collaborative project was integrating sustainable measures into the homes, such as solar panels that feed directly into a sonnenBatterie, double-glazed windows, and an energy recovery ventilation system. Electric heat pumps for hot water and hydronic heating further contribute to the home’s 8+ star (out of 10) NatHERS rating. Every element has been considered for maximum energy efficiency!

Not only does the double-storey home boast some serious sustainability creds, it’s also been impeccably designed by architect Chris Gilbert – director of award-winning firm Archier and fellow Davison Collaborative resident (ie. your potential new neighbour!). There’s access to outdoor space via the shared front yard, as well as a private, north-facing landscaped courtyard.

As a finalist in the Residential Architecture category of the TDF Design Awards, it certainly gets our tick of approval!

3/1 Davison Street will be going to auction on Saturday, November 14th. Click here to view the full listing and book a private inspection, limited times are still available this weekend and next week!
