A few weeks ago (which, right now, feels more like a few years!) we launched the debut solo exhibition of Pilbara-based artist Maggie Green, ‘I Been Born There’. We worked on bringing this show to life for over a year with Maggie’s art centre, the amazing team at Spinifex Hill Studio in Port Hedland, Western Australia.

Not only was this Maggie’s first solo show, it was the first TDF Collect exhibition of 2020, and also our first exhibition of an Indigenous artist. We were so excited to have Maggie and Maddie Sharrock from Spinifex Hill Studio fly all the way from Western Australia (what would have been Maggie’s first time in Melbourne!) for the opening. Due to the rapid outbreak of Covid-19,  unfortunately, we weren’t able to officially open this truly excellent exhibition. However, we still felt it was important to hang and document ‘I Been Born There’, to be seen in all its glory.

In lieu of being able to actually open the exhibition, we’re bringing it to you with this walkthrough video, accompanied by some words from Maggie herself about her practice!

Despite everything that has transpired in the last few weeks, we are so proud and excited to share that ‘I Been Born There’ was a SELL OUT SUCCESS!

Thank you so much to everyone who supported ‘I Been Born There’, including our sponsors Dulux, Capi, Sample Beer + Blackhearts and Sparrows, our friends at Sirap for helping us turn this video around so quickly, photographer Bri Hammond for capturing this exhibition so brilliantly, and most of all to Maggie + the team at Spinifex Hill Studio for trusting us with this special show! We hope you love it as much as we do.
