‘The House + Garden Of The Future’ Is Open For Inspection

If Paul West didn’t get you inspired to join the sustainable living movement earlier today, maybe this incredibly good looking tiny home and integrated urban farm will?

Unveiled at The Melbourne International Flower and Garden ShowEcoliv‘s display drives home how sustainable technology can slash energy bills, and outperform the average Australian house. Director Ash Beaumont took us through for a first-hand education.

Though it may be compact, inside and out, there’s all you could ever need in Ecoliv’s smart ‘House and Garden of the Future’. The award-winning sustainable builders have joined forces with urban food growers Biofilta, Live at the Cape, and The Sustainable Landscape Company to demonstrate how families can adopt better environmental practices while cutting household costs.

Their prefabricated Eco Studio is designed for use as a workspace, eco-luxury accommodation or a unit for independent living. It utilises renewable materials (such as timber sourced from Gippsland’s renewable plantations), harnesses solar energy (c/o Tesla’s Powerwall and Gippsland Solar), harvests and uses water efficiently, minimises other waste (in construction and day-to-day running) and offers a quality indoor environment. As does Biofilta’s adjoining urban farm, with its fully functioning loop productive garden, which even self-fertilises!

For Ecoliv’s Ash Beaumont, bringing this project to MIFGS is all about proving that self-sufficient, resource-efficient living can be modern and comfortable, plus stylish too. ‘Building a quality home today goes well beyond first-rate workmanship and superior materials. Being able to significantly reduce household energy bills, while minimising our carbon footprint over the lifecycle of the building is our priority, and this will continue to grow considerably throughout the industry in coming years,’ predicts the director, who launched his business in 2008. ‘The highlight of this project has been the joining of forces to educate the public on how easy it is to make small changes that have a lasting impact on the environment.’

Ecoliv, Biofilta and other experts involved in this project will be on site throughout the MIFGS to detail the design and demonstrate its ground-breaking technology to show-goers. Ash will also be taking to the Main Stage in The Royal Exhibition Building on Sunday, March 31st, 3:30pm-4:30pm. For more information visit Ecoliv.com.au.

P.S. If you’re sold on the concept and the design, this Eco Studio is currently for sale!
