As a representative for emerging artists, and a florist respectively, Julia Green of Greenhouse Interiors and Cherrie Miriklis-Pavlou of Flowers Vasette have more in common that you might think.
As longtime admirers of each other’s work, the idea for a collaboration pairing Julia’s artists with Cherrie’s iconic florist shop was hatched on the spot the very first time they met! Leah Bartholomew and Georgie Wilson were selected from Julia’s stable of over 30 artists, to create a selection of original works inspired by the spirit of Flowers Vasette, with vibrant artworks displayed in store, alongside a floral installation.
For the artists, showing their works in the Vasette space has been a somewhat sentimental experience. As an emerging artist living and working in Fitzroy, Leah made daily trips to the botanical institution to find inspiration. Georgie, who worked across the road, would spend her lunch breaks poring over Vasette’s rotating array of outstanding botanical displays.
Staged over a week in Fitzroy, works will first be exclusively available to those who make it down to the exhibition in person at the opening tonight, and will then be available online from 9am on Friday, November 23rd at Greenhouse Interiors for the remainder of the show.
