Home stylist Liberty Biggins and husband James have lived in their bright and spacious Malvern home with sons Xavier and Ollie for the past 8 months. Styling this much loved family sanctuary has been joyful project for Libby – drawing upon the skills she employs as part of her home stylist business.
As a visual editor in home spaces, Libby has applied an exacting eye to her own family abode. She explains ‘my personal style is minimalist in nature, with an eclectic dash of subtle colour, without being precious.’ This description perfectly captures the mood of the home, which balances a delicate balance of serenity/joy, sanctuary/comfort and monochrome/colour pops.
Libby approached the styling of her own home by letting the house itself take the lead. ‘I watched how the light moved during the day, and how we as a family of four would ultimately move through the house.’ This considered method has resulted in a serene and understated, yet personality-filled space.
Being immersed in the world of furniture, homewares and artwork, it’s no surprise Libby was spoilt for choice when decorating her own home. ‘I am fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful art, furniture and collectable in my work’ she says. ‘I wanted to create a space that felt inviting and suited out lifestyle and young family.’
Art takes centre stage here, and Libby highlights that the biggest challenge is ‘stopping myself from adding any more artwork to the walls.’ Her most treasured item in the house is the vintage poster in the kitchen. The piece was purchased after the birth of their first son, and is a treasured memento of her first year of parenthood.
Ultimately, though, the test of a great home is not how it looks, but how it *feels*. For the Biggins family, first and foremost, this means cultivating a home that is relaxed and easy to live in. ‘From the instant the front door is opened, I feel completely at home and relaxed’ confirms Libby. Mission accomplished!
