Top Ten Australian Homes of 2016 · Jo Dabrowski and Andrew Fisher

One of the most popular houses we featured in 2016 was the vibrant Newport home of former advertising copywriter Jo Dabrowski, her husband Andrew Fisher (a copywriter / creative director) and their kids Fred (age 7) and Herbie (age 5).

There is an overarching theme to this home – COLOUR! We love Jo’s bold approach to decorating. This is a space that proves being brave with a paintbrush really pays off!

Jo Dabrowski and Andrew Fisher purchased their Californian Bungalow in Melbourne’s inner west in late 2013. Since moving in, they have renovated and extended their home, and livened up the interior spaces with a very bold colour treatment!

Every room has been painted a different colour – from the deep grey walls in the front living room, to the softer grey in the master bedroom, and vibrant yellow of the home office.  ‘Choosing different colours for each room was absolutely one of my favourite parts of the process, and even today I’m still thinking about rooms I may re-paint one day’ says Jo!

Another element of this home which really surprised us was Jo and Andrew’s impressive collection of vintage furniture, much of which sourced via a local ‘Buy Swap Sell’ Facebook group. Jo is passionate about restoring pieces otherwise destined for the street curb, and many of the furniture in her home have been given a second life due her seasoned salvaging skills!
