Poppy Lane, Scott Gibson + Family

I’ve been ITCHING to share today’s beautiful story with you. Finally, today is the day!

I do genuinely love every house we feature, but I have to admit, I have my favourites. In 8 years of photographing some of Australia’s most unique, creative and photogenic homes, TODAY’s home in Eltham is up there…! Full of life and love, and layered with beautiful locally made furniture, homewares and artwork, this ‘life sized treehouse’ is a dream.

This is the home of Pop & Scott‘s Poppy Lane and Scott Gibson, and their little ones Frida (almost 3) and Lou (4 months).

It’s no secret we are big, HUGE fans of dynamic duo Poppy Lane and Scott Gibson. Poppy and Scott are partners in both life and in business, they run Pop & Scott workshop and showroom in Northcote, they design a growing range of furniture, homewares and insanely popular painted pots (!), and most importantly, they’re parents to sweet Frida and new baby Lou.

For Poppy and Scott, work and family life is one big, beautiful mish mash. It’s no surprise, then, that their gorgeous home in Eltham feels a little like an extension of their Northcote showroom! Here, Scott’s handcrafted furniture sits alongside Poppy’s woven ’Dreamweaver’ lampshades, and artwork and by friends and studio pals, including Dane Lovett and Bobby Clark. A consistent palette of burnt orange and ochre tones is complemented by natural timbers, vintage textiles and a jungle of super-sized indoor plants.

Incredibly, Poppy, Scott and the kids have lived here for only about a year. It’s a rental, so the pair haven’t been able to make any lasting changes, but that hasn’t stopped them from making the space uniquely their own. They have made simple improvements, such as updating light fittings and window furnishings, and have tamed the overgrown garden. Poppy also has an incredible knack for textile styling, layering rugs, linens, patchwork and pom poms, to create a wonderfully warm and eclectic interior.

Poppy’s decorating style is loose and intuitive. ‘I believe in only filling your home with furniture and objects that you love’ she says. Favourite recent acquisitions include an Indian door decoration, hung over the entry to the bathroom, and that incredibly huge plant on her dining table! ‘We were in a second hand store to buy some drawers for Lou’s clothes, then walked out with a very expensive plant instead!’ she explains.

For a couple who have spent much of their lives living 5 minutes from work, the move to Eltham has brought a welcome change of pace. ‘We love that we get to drive a short distance from our busy workshop and showroom in Northcote and land in what feels like the middle of the bush!’ Poppy explains. ‘We feel a great sense of relief just walking through the door. I think anyone who has young children and runs their own small business understands how important being able to find space is!’.

Despite the recent arrival of sweet baby Lou, it’s full steam ahead at Pop & Scott HQ, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon! Poppy and Scott’s current focus is the October opening of their brand new showroom in Byron Bay – congrats guys!
