I wake up to Rachel Castle every morning. In fact a lot of Australians do. Much like a popular breakfast radio host, Rachel’s work is best enjoyed between the hours of 6.00 – 9.00am, to kick start your day with a smile. Of course, I’m not talking about the woman herself, but rather her colourful and comfortable bed linen, which first launched close to a decade ago. Every year Rachel releases additions to her cheerful linen collection, the latest of which makes its debut this week.
The new Multi Spot range is all about ‘the calm and peacefulness of crisp white linen, but with a little nod to our dotty personality,’ explains Rachel. There are oversized polka dots in seven great colours on each design, available as quilts, flat and fitted sheets, and pillowcases in Castle’s signature 280 thread count cotton. The range comes in cot to single to king sizes too. ‘Our ranges are very simple on purpose,’ says Rachel. ‘They’re designed as staple pieces that don’t need to be replaced when new trends emerge, but simply updated with the odd pillowcase or sheet here and there.’
Besides launching her newest product lines, Rachel has been keeping busy with all of her usual creative pursuits. She has just returned from a trip to India, is working on a new direction with her painting practice, and continues to make her hand embroidered appliqué artworks. ‘It’s business as usual really – just always trying to make pretty things that we feel really good about’ she says.
