Melbourne maker Joe Chester is the craftsman behind TreeHorn Design.  We first ran a little story on Joe back in 2012, when he was working from a single car garage out the back of his home in Richmond.  Since then his business has grown significantly, and he is now based from a much larger workshop in Preston. 'Our Preston workshop is actually part of a co-op, so there is great room for collaboration and outsourcing' says Joe. 'We've taken on extra staff too, and the team and collection is growing nicely'. We have stocked TreeHorn's beautiful handcrafted timber serving platters at our Open House events for two years running, and they always sell out!  So we were very excited to see a new addition to the TreeHorn family - new rectangular serving boards, available in a great variety of colours. All TreeHorn's timber serving ware is made from sustainably grown Tasmanian Oak. 'We've researched our suppliers both for environmental credentials and production techniques' says Joe. 'You wouldn't think it, but there is a right and a wrong way to season timber, and we won't stand for a sub standard raw material!'.   The colour used is non toxic, and each board is finished off with a food grade oil which brings out the natural woodgrain, and makes the colour really pop! TreeHorn is off on a working holiday to Sweden later this year, where Joe will meet with company that wants to license the brand in Europe. 'This year is going to be really big for TreeHorn if we can keep up with the demand' he says. 'There are so many new designs in the process of becoming. I'm like a giddy school girl!'. TreeHorn's new rectangular serving boards come in a great range of colours and two sizes - the 35cm long retails for for $55, and the large 60cm version for $88.  They can be purchased online here.
