OK, GET EXCITED people, we're announcing something a bit special today. TDF Collect is a brand new project we've been developing for a little while now, and which we're thrilled to launch in just two weeks time in Melbourne! Through running this site and staging our annual TDF Open House events over the past few years, we have developed a somewhat obsessive passion for unearthing emerging (and often unrepresented) Australian artists, promoting their incredible talents, and making their work accessible to you guys, our readers.  We've come to realise that TDF can make an important contribution by supporting these local artists both online and offline, and giving them a platform to reach new audiences and collectors. With this in mind, we've been hatching a bit of a plan over the past few months which feeds our passion for Australian art, and allows us to showcase work by some of our favourite artists a little more often than just once a year! TDF Collect is our name for this new initiative, which will hold a series of temporary art exhibitions throughout the year.  Each TDF Collect exhibition will showcase original Australian artwork by that is new, collectible and affordable.  These are works by emerging local artists we love, and who we believe are destined for big things!  By affordable, we're talking under $2500 - with many works also falling under $1000. In our first year we will host four quarterly exhibitions, giving four carefully selected emerging Australian artists the opportunity to host a solo show with us. We're thrilled to launch this very special new project with Decoding the Jungle - an incredible exhibition of new paintings by Melbourne artist Barbara Kitallides. We discovered Barbara's work last year, and have keenly watched her progress since then.  We also included her beautiful colour-drenched canvases at our Open House events in both Melbourne and Sydney last year, and were super chuffed that you guys seemed to share our enthusiasm for Barbara's work - her works were a sell out in both cities! For Decoding The Jungle, Barbara presents 26 new paintings which navigate the emotional jungle that sometimes lives within and around us. 'I was inspired to explore this jungle theme out of a need to understand my own world' Barbara explains. On a surface level, each artwork in this series takes on the abstract form, but when inspected a little more closely, presents itself as a unique jungle landscape. 'In this series I have made a conscious choice to go a little darker and deeper, both in colour palette and theme' Barbara says. The works invite the audience to navigate and explore their own personal jungle. Barbara's show will open in our brand new little gallery space in Brunswick, Melbourne, in two weeks time on Thursday 27th March 2014, 6.00pm - 8.00pm.  We hope you'll join us! For those who can't make the show, all Barbara's work are listed on the TDF Collect website from today, and are available for pre-sale via email.
