Today we're joined again by our brilliant monthly contributor, Simone Haag of Melbourne design firm Hecker Guthrie.  We're seeing a lot of utilitarian, outdoorsy elements in contemporary interiors right now, and with Simone's suggestions, it's such an easy look to incorporate at home. Today's post is NOT sponsored by Canadian online store Best Made, but it might as well be... such a fabulous find to bookmark, thanks for the intro Sim! - Lucy

I challenge anyone to walk past a VW combi van and not get a little nostalgic - the tartan upholstery gets me every time! Whether you’re campers or not, I am positive there is something in the Australian DNA that engages this sense of familiarity. Or maybe it’s just ingrained in me, as every family holiday was spent camping at Yarrawonga, when all I really wanted was go to Dream World on the Gold Coast! Today’s post is not about making you the coolest camper at the caravan park, but rather, showing you how to introduce a little of of this utilitarian 'camping cool' theme at home. We're seeing a lot of outdoorsy elements in contemporary interiors right now, and with the addition of just a few carefully selected accessories, it's such an easy look to incorporate into any interior space. We took inspiration for this post from our most recent retail project The Windsor Annex (a concept by Elwood), which is a blokey emporium that not only sells great apparel and accessories, from hiking boots to Swiss army knives, but is also a space where 'man time' is encouraged around a very urban expression of the campfire! We hope you enjoy this month’s round up, see you next time! – Simone 1. Seamless & Steadfast Enamel steel bowls and cups from Best Made ($35.00 USD for cups and $32.00 USD for bowls) - The Seamless & Steadfast Enamel Steel range come to Best Made direct from a European manufacturer who still use World War II era machinery. 2. Campstool by Wood & Faulk and available from The Woodsfolk ($210.00 AUD) – Handmade in Portland by Wood & Faulk, this tripod stool is constructed in ash and English bridle leather, and armed with its very own carrying strap. Perfection on three legs if you ask us! 3. The Davy lamp from Best Made ($180.00 USD) – According to Best Made, this lamp is fashioned after a traditional Davy lamp, originally used by British coal miners. Best Made's interpretation of this classic lamp is made in solid brass, individually numbered, and would make a handsome addition to any room. 4. Jackaroo woollen travel rug from Creswick ($89.99 AUD) – It wouldn’t be a road trip (or picnic) without a travel blanket, and Melbourne manufacturers Creswick do a range of beautiful locally made blankets with optional leather carry straps. 5.  Canvas log basket from Best Made ($120.00 USD) -  If variety wasn’t the name of the game, every item in this post could be from Best Made, a Canadian-based company whose foundations are based on the humble axe, but who've gone on to create a huge range of beautiful outdoorsy-inspired goods. This canvas log basket is exclusively made for Best Made, and presents the perfect opportunity to brings a little 'campsite cool' indoors.  A special shout out to Josh from the HG studio who introduced us to all things Best Made.

6. Wooden clothes dryer from Father Rabbit ($125.00 NZD) – There is no place for your flimsy white wire clothes rack when there are beauties such as this on the market!  Inspired by outdoor living, but perfect for the home laundry. 7. Linen from Commune Designs (from $88.00 USD) – Commune Design is a collective of international designers.  We love their tactile range of tablelinen made in Los Angeles by Matteo. 8. Yogi table by Jardan ($5780.00 AUD) –  The Yogi series from Jardan is a sophisticated interpretation of the quintessential camping ground picnic table, seen here with a solid American Oak top and rail, and an aluminium base. 9. Swiss Army blanket from Manufactum (167.00 Euro) – Manufactum is a German super store that the Hecker Guthrie team has embraced over the years.  The store's motto is 'the good things in life still exist'!  Everything at Manufactum, including this Swiss Army blanket, is made with quality and integrity in mind. 10. Tabletop grill by Eva Solo from Top3 ($420.00 AUD) – This porcelain tabletop grill by Eva Solo adds plenty of style to outdoor cooking, and sure beats the communal camping BBQ.

11. Eco-Wise plaid pillowcase from Pendleton ($78.00 USD) – Seattle-based company Pendleton really are famed for their amazing blankets and travel rugs, but we were also particularly taken by this 100% wool pillowcase in oversized black and white check. 12. Timber candlestick holders by Another Country from Luke Furniture (from $75.00 AUD) – Another Country are UK-based craftspeople who take their inspiration from Shaker, Scandinavian and Japanese woodwork. They have recently diversified their offer to include accessories, such as these turned timber candlestick holders. 13. Fionda chair by Mattiazzi from District246 ($600.00 AUD) – The Fionda chair is by British designer Jasper Morrison for Italian brand Mattiazzi. Fionda, which means 'sling' in Italian, is inspired by a folding Japanese camping chair.  14. Ding table by Normann Copenhagen ($490.00 USD) – While the Ding table is actually inspired by ancient three-dimensional wooden brainteaser puzzles, in this punchy coral colourway, we like to think it is reminiscent of a flickering campfire. Long shot perhaps?! 15. Camping stool by Normann Copenhagen ($2600.00 AUD) – This webbed stool is part of a suite of stylised camping-inspired furniture, which includes a daybed and chair crafted in pale leather and canvas.  In the words of Danish design brand Normann Copenhagen 'quite simply, this is furniture that will be handed down through the generations.' And for the price tag, you would want it to! For more inspiration from the clever team at Hecker Guthrie, be sure to check out their website and view their incredible impressive portfolio of work.
