After Simone's previous two 'Hunt / Gather' round ups, we listened to your requests, and sent her on a mission sourcing stylish and interesting accessories for that often forgotten domestic space - the BATHROOM!  It soon became clear that a 'Top 10' approach just wouldn't be broad enough to cover everything.. so instead, our intrepid  contributor has gone above and beyond  - highlighting 5 fabulous products across 5 different bathroom categories. We've steered clear of too many fixed items, instead focussing on easily incorporated details which can be used to lift any space, whether you're renting or renovating.  EPIC WORK SIM!  - Lucy

Today’s Hunt / Gather edition is dedicated to the very clever The Design Files reader who left a special request for a post on bathroom accessories.  What a genius idea, we thought.  SO here you go! It was not until we started to unearth all of the options, that we realised how huge this category is!  In fact, there was so much bathroom goodness to uncover that we decided to turn this month's Hunt / Gather column into a BUMPER edition, collating our favourite finds into a 'Top 5' system across 5 categories - best bathroom organisers, bins, linens, hooks/racks and mirrors.  Enjoy! – Simone 1. Hammam bath sheets from Kulchi (from $90.00 AUD) – These Kulchi bath sheets are 100% cotton made in Morocco. The embossing and fringing adds a level texture and interest to them which we love. 2. Classic 600 towels in charcoal from Abode Living (from $12.00 AUD for face washer to $35.00 AUD for bath towel) – We are big fans of local linen specialists Abode Living, and we particularly like these 100% Egyptian cotton towels. They are super generous in size and are made in Europe exclusively for Abode. 3. Pepa bath mat from Country Road ($49.95 AUD) – When in doubt head to Country Road! This is the perfect understated bath mat to add just a touch of geometric detail to any bathing space. 4. Linen bath towels by Fog Linen from Father Rabbit ($65.00 NZD each) – These bath towels towels have made it into the mix all the way from New Zealand-based Father Rabbit. Sharing these linen towels was as much about the product as introducing you all to this great online store! 5. Confetti jersey bath mat from West Elm ($29.95 AUD) – Hecker Guthrie is pretty excited that West Elm is soon make its Melbourne debut, which luckily for us is just up the road from our studio! We love the graphic quality of their confetti jersey bath mat.

1. Tom Dixon Eclectic Hex Champagne bucket from Safari Living ($308.00 AUD) – At Hecker Guthrie we love finding new ways to use things beyond their intended purpose.  It keeps things interesting!  This Tom Dixon hex copper bucket is another dual-purpose product, its original intended use is to serve champagne, but we think it makes for a pretty extravagant bathroom bin! 2. Ruutu storage sack by Varpunen from The Minimalist ($44.00 AUD) – These flexible yet tough storage sacks are created by a design duo based in Finland, and available via Sydney store The Minimalist.  These come in various sizes and prints - great for the bathroom, but equally suited to the laundry. 3. Traskova silver plated bin by Boqil from Top3 by design ($550.00 AUD) – The delightfully crumpled Trashkova bin by Boqil is made by Melbourne based husband and wife team Tim Stone and Aya Hatano, who have a passion for fusing design and sculpture. 4. Bright band two handle basket in grey from Freedom ($59.95 AUD) – A bit of a hangover from our last rope-inspired hunt / gather column, these affordable two tone baskets from Freedom also make a great bathroom bin or alternatively could be used to store towels / toilet paper. 5. Spoke trashcan from Urban Outfitters ($29.00 USD) – We have a soft spot for US based retail giant Urban Outfitters!  The Spoke bin is a versatile, classic but very affordable option.

1. Futagami brass towel hanger designed by Masanori Oji and made by Futagami from Mr Kitly (from $110 AUD) – Designer Masanori Oji's collaboration with one of Japan's oldest metalware manufacturers Futagami, has produced a unique brass towel rail which comes in two sizes - perfect for a slightly more elegant touch in the powder room and the bathroom! 2. Bathroom hooks by Stillben (from $46.00 to $85.00 AUD) – These hooks by a supplier called 'Antique Mirror' and are sold through Danish super store Stilleben. Hamish was lucky enough to pop in and visit Stilleben on a recent trip to Copenhagen while he was on a study tour with the team from Cult. He assures me they are as beautiful in the flesh as they look in the images. They come in five different sizes and are made from oak and vintage antique mirrors. (Note: Email netshop@stilleben.dk direct for enquiries) 3. Button and big top wall hooks from Lightly ($38.00 AUD each) – Created by Melbourne design studio Lightly, the button and big top wall hooks are inspired by the playful nature of toys, and the child within us all. These hooks are hand turned from plantation pine in Victoria, with Lightly set to produce a new colour palette seasonally. 4. Roll With It toilet paper holder by Assembly Design ($120.00 USD) – This toilet roll from US design collective Assembly Design is a super simple brass cylinder with a removable peg that is a refined and elegant approach to such a utilitarian object. 5. Hold Hook by Established & Sons from Living Edge ($220.00 AUD per pair) – The Established & Sons 'Hold' robe hooks are an unusual piece - they're actually ceramic, though these metallic ones with their highly reflective finish look almost like precious metals.  They comes in nine brilliant colours (see more here), but we can't get enough of the gold!

1. Ceramic vessels by Brooke Thorn for Luke ($25.00 AUD each) and wooden face brush by Redeker from Scout House ($14.95 AUD) – These hand thrown small vessels with an overlapping white and seed green glaze are designed and made by local designer Brooke Thorn of ‘Throw, Turn Fire’ exclusively for Luke in Prahran. Brooke actually happens to be one of the original Interior Designers to work within the studio of Hecker Guthrie or HP&G as it was in those days. This vase works perfectly as a toothbrush holder, or in this case we've used to store this German beechwood face brush by Redecker available through Scout House. 2. Edit canister from Freedom ($14.95 AUD) – Perfect for all of the bathroom paraphernalia that you need close by, but may not wish to look at. With its black and white geometric patterning, the Edit canister is sure to enhance pretty much any existing scheme. 3. Cari small oak lid bowl from Country Road ($24.95 AUD) – This small canister by Country Road is great for bathroom organisation.  It looks great on its own but even better when stacked. The sliver of timber on the lid adds warmth and texture.  Very stylish. 4. Wood + glass storage jars from West Elm (from $18.00 to $34.00 AUD) – As explained earlier, at Hecker Guthrie we do love to mix up our homewares and use things for more than just their intended purpose. These timber and glass kitchen storage jars from West Elm work equally well for cotton tip and buds in the bathroom. 5. Silo shelf from Normann Copenhagen ($125.00 USD) – The Silo shelf creates 'stylish order' in the shower. For a novel approach you could also fill it with plants.

1. Bigger Brothers: Something on the Side mirrors by Miniforms from Cafe Culture (from $814.00 AUD) – One of these very mirrors is actually making its way into Hamish’s (the 'Guthrie' in Hecker Guthrie) own powder room. Designed by Paolo Cappello for Miniforms, we like the fact that it is not a permanent fixture, but a light, loose element within the bathroom context. 2. All Oak mirror designed by Made by Douglas and Bec for Kate Sylvester, available from Douglas and Bec ($620.00 NZD) – This is not the first time a Douglas and Bec for Kate Sylvester item has appeared in this column, and I don’t think it will be the last! Another favourite supplier of ours from across the ditch, their solid bent American white oak frame with a blush leather strap and gold details is kind of perfect. 3. Hex mirror by Daniel Emma ($110.00 AUD) – Daniel and Emma are an Adelaide-based industrial design duo who have designed a pretty special suite of objects, one of which is this hexagonal mirror. 4. Index mirror by Boffi (from $890.00 AUD) – This item is a cylindrical shaped mirror where the rotating two-sided mirror can flip between a normal and a magnifying mirror. Genius! 5. Bound Hand V1 mirror by Grain Design ($325.00 USD) – And for a bit of tribal in your bathroom, we love these ethically hand held mirrors from Grain Design, which are made from reclaimed mirrors and hand wrapped hemp twine.  There are a few circular wall mounted options too, check out the full collection here.
