Brisbane based Helen Conomos started her career as a lawyer, but these days she's designing and manufacturing her own micro-range of homewares and accessories under the label Lovestar! How does this happen, you might wonder!? It really comes down to an intuitive creative streak - which can only be stifled for so long!
'I have always had a creative passion, but have suppressed it over the years, working in law, and then going on to be a mother to three gorgeous little girls' explains Helen. 'I got my chance at unleashing my creative beast last year at Anna Spiro's Christmas Flea, when she asked if I would like to sell a few things at her market. The response was amazing.'
Helen's signature product is the 'Queen of Hearts' vase, a decorative acrylic vessel, designed to hang on the wall, or sit on its side on a flat surface. These bright, cheerful pieces are all handmade by Helen and her husband - her father-in-law even laser cuts the perspex from his rickety old shed in Brisbane!
Since that first opportunity to showcase her work late last year, Helen has been working day and night with her husband to get her product out there - 'and LOVING every minute!' she says! The 'Queen of Hearts' vase can be purchased online here. It is also now stocked at Black and Spiro, and was recently used by Megan Morton in a shoot for Loveable Lingerie, featuring Jennifer Hawkins! Ooh la la! I do hope Ms Hawkins got to keep one after.
