OK ok I MAY have misled you earlier this week when I gave the indication that we would not be running VALENTINE'S DAY content. I secretly always had this little gift guide in the works. Because really, all religious / non-religious / overly commercialised holidays aside, I am, at the end of the day, a retail junkie, and any chance of gift gifting between loved ones I think should be encouraged!
We enlisted the dream team for this little story – photographer Brooke Holm and stylist Marsha Golemac (who just happen to be real life besties – so convenient!) have joined forces to capture a handful of fun gift ideas for the person you love. Could be your fella, your lady, your housemate or even your Mum…everyone likes a heartfelt gift, and even better if it's from a lovely local retailer!
So we have three spreads for ladies and two for blokes. Though it's a very tightly edited round-up, lots of brilliant retailers and designers are represented – for the girls Marsha has selected key pieces from Melbourne jewellery labels Dani M and House of Baulch, Sydney-based designer Jen Booth, and let's not forget the womens interest book of the season, Grace: A Memoir by Grace Coddington (assuming there isn't a copy on every bedside table in the country already). The men's ideas are particularly inspired, I reckon…they include St. Ali's A-Z Coffee guide, the world's most beautiful hip flask by Izola from Mister White, seriously sexy leathergoods from Isaac Reina at Epatant, Head Full of Snakes Issue II gets another mention because it's just SO good and still hot off the press (!!) – and there's even a classic shirt from Jack London, because seriously, a dinner date with a man in a crisp white shirt is just the best. thing. ever.
Sooo that's it. You shall hear no more about Valentine's Day from me until next year. We hope this little spread will inspire an impromptu gift or two next Thursday – fingers crossed!
