Just when I think I've uncovered every hidden handcrafted gem Melbourne has to offer, another sweet local label comes along and reignites my enthusiasm!  This latest find is one such discovery - I am loving the simple shapes and quirky graphic detailing on these handcrafted leather accessories by Melbourne designer Georgie Cummings. Originally trained in industrial design, Georgie started her accessories label mid last year.  'I wanted to create clean, simple designs that have a playful side' explains Georgie when asked to describe her work. 'I'm really into making everything by hand' says Georgie, who currently creates all her pieces from her home studio in Brunswick.  The kangaroo leather is screen printed and stitched by hand before being fitted with brass hardware.  'The stitching is a very old technique, as machine stitching is far more common, however, the strength and tactility achieved from hand stitching with waxed linen thread outlasts most machine stitches - and given I use one of the strongest leathers, it seems only fitting to use the best technique!'.  Old school.  I like it. Georgie's accessories are available from her online shopDagmar Rousset, M.T.O Industry, Craft Victoria and Ursa Studiohouse.
