Ok we're a bit excited about this little discovery....!  Bowerhouse is a new WA-based based homewares and home accessories label, the creation of textile designer Natalie Long. Natalie originally studied fashion and textile design at the WA School of Art and Design, and upon graduation landed a job with surf brand Rusty in their production department.  Within three weeks she was on a plane to India and straight into the factories!  Most recently, Natalie held the role of Production Manager at Perth-based designer label Flannel. After a few years of invaluable design and production experience, and countless visits to fabric markets, mills, and printing and sewing factories overseas, Natalie eventually found her love for fashion was starting to fade, and a passion for print, textiles and interior design began to take over. In February last year Natalie decided it was finally time to follow her passion. Without a 'back-up plan', she quit her job and booked a trip to India, Indonesia and China, setting off on a journey of 'research, relaxation, and a little self discovery'. Nine months later, Bowerhouse was born. Natalie's debut range for Bowerhouse includes a collection of printed tablelinen, cushions quilts and bags, and a complementary range of unique handcrafted rattan pieces, including light fittings, stools, and bar carts. 'My background put me in good stead for sourcing makers and designing, and developing the textile based pieces, but moving into rattan products was a learning curve for me' recalls Natalie. 'For the bar carts in particular it was a long journey from sketch to final product, my partner (boyfriend) and I did three trips to Indonesia to work with the maker to develop them. I was lucky to find a great guy there who taught me a lot about the rattan material and craft. I make sure we use the highest grade rattan and work with expert craftsmen - I am really proud of what we have produced'. When not travelling, Natalie works from home, in the coastal suburb of Scarborough in W.A. I am SO IMPRESSED by the incredible drive behind her debut range! What a clever cookie. In addition to creating a stunning collection, she's also created an excellent website and some seriously beautiful imagery to promote Bowerhouse, with the able assistance of photographer Jody D'arcy and stylist Jo Carmichael - these shots look stunning ladies!
