I have a fascination with collage and reliefs. Sometimes I think I like old signs / posters, old circus banners and old fairground puppet shows etc more than contemporary paintings. An old book on shopfronts/sign writing in Russia and America showcasing beautiful weathered facades is full of imagery that draws me to it so much. Some of my new pieces are very much me wanting to play with the extra dimension that can be achieved using the shadow box as a little theatrette.

I have a love for so much imagery from a bygone era and especially the old pulp magazines and kitsch, making all the components, then hand making the frames and structures to play like little stages - the kitsch paintings of crying big eyed children and velvet paintings, smoking boys and skulls with still lifes are really impacting on me and I’ve been having a great time reinterpreting those. It’s a great adventure making new work.
