We’ve been working around the clock this past two weeks to produce our showcase event, The Design Files Open House, which opens this week. I thought I’d use this opportunity to share a little insight into how our team is pulling it all together!
We’ve spent the last 2 months shooting product (We have over 60 Australian artists, makers and designers on board), and our editorial team have spent countless hours planning, designing, writing, and proofing our beautiful event newspaper – grab one at the event, or hunt down an advance copy at Happy Valley or Burnside Coffeein Collingwood!
Our construction team have been measuring up and building a whole lot of walls, shelving and shop fittings – whilst our kitchen design team at Cantilever Interiorshave designed and built us a brand. new. KITCHEN! (can you believe it!?).
Back at the office, our talented design team have been preparing some awesome assets to paste all around the city (have you seen our posters about?!), and talking a whole lot about ‘Friends’ – our favourite soft pink from the 2018 Dulux Colour Forecast (it features heavily in the house!).
I’ve been doing a heap of media interviews, tee’d up by our truly miraculous publicity whizz, Esther Navarro-Orejon of The Project Agency. And, we’ve been BLOWN AWAY by the media support so far – I can’t believe we even made the cover story in Domain on the weekend – WHAT!?
FINALLY, we’ve been working hard on something extra special this year – TDF Talks…! This new speaker series will feature 10 inspiring creative trailblazers from the worlds of architecture, art, interior design and social enterprise. Tickets are just $20, with all proceeds going to our friends at the ASRC.
Even though we’re currently in the overwhelming thick of it, and I’ve had more than a few ‘I can’t believe we’re doing this again!’ moments over the past month (!), there really is something uniquely special about this project. This weekend, whilst working long hours to hang over 60 beautiful artworks on our TDF Open House walls, I had this sudden realisation. It just dawned on me – even though the sun was shining, and Instagram was telling me that basically everyone else in Melbourne was at the beach, or drinking Aperol Spritz on Gertrude st, there literally was nowhere else I’d rather be, than working on a Sunday, just bringing this crazy spectacle to life.
I’m so excited to throw open the doors this Thursday and share our project with you all.
Hope to see you there!
