The Lowercase brilliant ‘Alphabetti Spaghetti’ paper placemats!

OH it is very sad to say goodbye to the lovely Lowercase peeps today on the Guest Blog!  I have enjoyed learning a little more about the inspiration for their quirky designs… it’s not often you see a launch range of product where each piece really does have it’s own story.

Tessa and Michael (+ bump!) at The Lowercase have loved sharing their stories with you guys this week, and so have kindly offered a sweet giveaway for one lucky Design Files reader!  If you pop over and leave a comment on ANY of their GUEST POSTS this week, you will be in the running to win all three sets of their creative paper placemats (total value $78.00).  Just think of the super fun dinner parties which await you…!  These fabulous designs are not to be wasted on KIDS!  He he. Well ok, but only if they’ve been really really good.

Pop over to the Guest Blog and leave your comment to be in the running!  A winner will be selected randomly and contacted by email on the weekend.

Hollie & Harrie Sombrilla giveaway!

Genius new ‘Sombrillas’ by new Melbourne company Hollie & Harrie

How good are these new ‘Sombrilla’ sunshades from Melbourne start-up Hollie & Harrie!?

The Sombrilla was a ‘lightbulb moment’ for Hampton-based Mums Skye Hollingsworth and Claire Harris (Hollie & Harrie, get it?), who, with 5 young kids between them, were looking for an effective but stylish way to keep their families protected on the beach in summer.   The Sombrilla is such an elegantly simple solution!   Made from 100% cotton fabric (nothing plasticky thankyou very much!), it can be adjusted throughout the day as the sun moves across the beach / backyard / campsite/ wherever you happen to be… !  They’re available in three vibrant designs as shown here, each with a corresponding carry-bag, and are priced at $150.00 each – extremely reasonable for such a fanastic locally designed product!

Claire and Skye are very excited to offer one lucky Design Files reader a Sombrilla of their choice! If this week is anything to go by, we still have a fair few hot days ahead of us… so get commenting for your chance to be in the running!

To enter, please leave a comment on this post before midnight tonight Tuesday Feb 1st, Melbourne time! A winner will be drawn at random and contacted by email tomorrow. (Competition open to Australian residents only).  If you subscribe to these posts by email, please don’t reply to your daily email, just pop over to thedesignfiles.net to enter.

HUGE thanks to Claire and Skye for this fabulous summery giveaway!  Don’t forget to show your support to these clever local ladies by visiting their website – Sombrillas can also be purchased online here.

*UPDATE – This giveaway is now closed!  The winning commenter was #497 – congratulations Edwina!  Thanks so much for all your entries!

Basil Bangs beach umbrellas + giveaway!

Beautiful beach umbrellas by Sydney based Basil Bangs!

Basil Bangs‘ Calypso umbrella – rrp $220.00

My personal favourite! Basil’s ‘Caroline Seabreeze’ Sunbrella with timber pole – rrp $450.00

These fabulous beach umbrellas from Sydney based Basil Bangs have had their fair share of pre-Christmas press already… but you know I don’t mind jumping on the bandwagon occasionally when something is particularly gorgeous – and especially when there is a reader giveaway involved!

Basil Bangs was started by 3 friends who all grew up on Sydney’s beaches, spending many a summer laying underneath a beach brolly.  Mike Durante is an Industrial designer within the surf industry, Lauren Boyce has a background in marketing & advertising, and Nicholas Chapman has worked in the fitness industry for years. Also a surfer, Nicholas was a keen collector of beach umbrellas long before Basil Bangs was born… his  personal collection served for a lot of inspiration for the design phase of Basil!

Basil’s three founders worked for 2 years to create the perfect range of vintage-inspired beach umbrellas, with beautiful detailing such as the unique die-cast aluminium ‘Basil Hinge’, retro fringing and, on the premium Luxury stripe range, a beautiful beech hardwood pole.  Their vibrant range was finally launched just this summer – and is already getting a lot of well-deserved attention!

I am always instantly enamoured with any local company who commit to doing just one thing really really well – although I must say I would be first in line if Basil decides to branch into larger garden / cafe-style umbrellas!   I’m desperate for some shade in my teeny back garden and Bunnings just isn’t cutting the mustard with their tired bottle green canvas offerings!

Lauren from Basil Bangs is a loyal Design Files reader (thankyou Lauren!), and has generously offered yet ANOTHER fabulous giveaway for Design Files readers!  One lucky winner will be able to choose any umbrella from the Basil Bangs range, (valued between $220 – $450) and Lauren will package it up and post it out before Christmas… man you guys are SO LUCKY!

To be in the running, please leave a comment here before midnight tonight, Melbourne time! A winner will be selected at random and contacted by email.  If you subscribe to these posts by email please don’t reply, just pop over to thedesignfiles.net and leave your comment there to enter :)

*Update – this giveaway has now been drawn at random, and the winner was comment #334 – congratulations Alice!  Thanks to everyone for all your fantabulous comments!

Huge thanks to the Basil Bangs team for this super generous giveaway… just in time for the holidays!

David Bromley + Capocchi collaboration, PLUS Bromley giveaway!

David Bromley‘s latest collaboration, with furniture dealers Capocchi

Bromley + Capocchi collaboration

Well it’s been a while since I have written anything about DAVID BROMLEY…. so at the risk of repeating myself, here is another Bromley-inspired post!

The prolific DB has recently joined forces with high-end Melbourne antique merchants Capocchi to create a very special bespoke range which includes wallpapers, lampshades, mirrors, tub chairs, sideboards, bookshelves, dining chairs, dress maker bodices, beds and many other pieces – antiques sourced by Capocchi and ‘Bromley-fied’ by David.  The interesting thing about this particular collab is that Bromley’s treatment of each item is entirely unique – creating a collection of truly one-off collector items.  They’re not cheap but maaaan they’re pretty!

To celebrate the recent Capocchi collaboration, David Bromley would love to offer a beautiful original embroidered artwork valued at $1200 to one lucky Design Files reader!  (It is pictured below).

Oh. My. God. AMAZING!

To enter this very special giveaway, please leave a comment here before midnight tonight, Melbourne time! A winner will be selected at random from the comments and contacted by email.  In you subscribe to these posts by email please don’t reply to your daily email – just pop over to www.thedesignfiles.net to leave your comment and be in the running to win! (Please note this giveaway is entirely separate from the Great Christmas Giveaway which I posted earlier this week!)
