Belle Coco Republic Interior Designer of the Year – David Flack, Flack Studio

It is no secret that Flack Studio are one of our FAVE local design studios – they just KEEP delivering brilliant project after brilliant project. The man at the helm of the operations, David Flack was awarded the ‘Interior Designer of the Year’ accolade, as the judges celebrated his ‘unique approach to visionary design.’

Best Residential Interior – Arent & Pyke, Under the Tree

The golden gong for Best Residential Interior (aka – what your home COULD look like) went to Arent & Pyke for their work on Under the Tree. Earthy tones in this renovated weatherboard cottage make a subtle reference to the family’s South African heritage, whilst an eclectic collection of textures, soft furnishings, furniture and original artwork add depth and dimension.

Best Residential Kitchen Design – Kennedy Nolan, Caroline House

Kennedy Nolan were recognised for their refined and confident work on the Caroline House kitchen. The judges particularly highlighted the ‘delicate play between black, white and cream that bring a gentle background to the open planned living space.’ The design of the kitchen was honest about its functional use, without dominating the living area of the home.

A technicolour delight from eternally-on-the-money Flack Studio. A Memphis edge is introduced to a family home via this bold bathroom in North Caulfield. Is it a sculpture, or a sink? Or both!

Best Hospitality Interior – Amber Road, Edition Roasters

Amber Road were recognised for their work on Edition Roasters cafe in Haymarket. The judges enthused ‘this humble cafe emulates traditional Japanese rural life, existing in start contrast to the modernism that surrounds it.’

Best Commercial Interior – Esoteriko, Shelter

The Commercial Interior award went to emerging practice Esoteriko  – we’ll definitely be keeping a keen eye on them! Pink hues of cedar wood bring warmth to the stainless steel in this gym in the backstreets of Double Bay NSW.

Emerging Design Star – Dylan Farrell, Dylan Farrell Design

Another designer to keep an ear out for in the future is Dylan Farrell awarded ‘Emerging Design Star’ for 2019. Dylan’s trademark is specialising in discrete and detailed boutique design, and was recognised for his work with Bayside Modern and Sydney Contemporary Perch.

Best Work with Colour – Yasmine Ghoniem, Amber Road

Double winners Amber Road not only take out the Best Hospitality Interior Award, but are also celebrated for their incredible work with colour. The Belle judges highlighted the interior team’s ability to work with a ‘plethora of hues from sky blue to bright chartreuse, in a sensitive balance between liveability and resplendence.’
