Lauren Roe is our neighbour. She runs her business, I Love Linen, from a warehouse right across the road from our studio in Collingwood, and while we don’t borrow sugar from each other, we do keep a friendly eye on the comings and going of her busy little studio!
I Love Linen specialises in French flax bed linen. We especially love Lauren’s latest offering, a new range of reversible winter bedlinen incorporating a classic grey ticking stripe.
Lauren Roe started her bed linen business, I Love Linen, in 2013, around about the same time she had her daughter, Olive. ‘I have never been good at sitting still so I thought it would be totally practical and normal to raise a newborn and start a business at the same time!’ she jokes. The responsibility of first time motherhood really put things into perspective for Lauren, and forced her to learn how to time manage like a boss. ‘It was a pretty hectic time but it made me really focused, as I had given myself 12 months to grow the business and make it work’ she says.
A few years on, and business is booming. The I Love Linen team has grown from just Lauren, to a staff of three, including Lauren’s partner, who works alongside her.
Lauren’s own background extends from super creative to super corporate. Past experiences in PR, marketing, communications, business management and even one time working at a bank (!) have all helped shape her unique skill set, and given her the versatility required to run her successful small business.
I Love Linen is an online bedding destination that specialises in French flax bed linen and printed pieces designed by Lauren, as well as occasional bedding accessories sourced from her travels. ‘I love having a classic base range, with high quality fabrics that allows you to place little playful touches here and there,’ she says. We particularly love Lauren’s latest offering – an understated new range of reversible winter bedlinen in a classic grey ticking stripe, deep navy and soft grey tones.
This year Lauren has big plans to expand her range, with sleepwear, floor cushions and beanbag designs all currently in development. She has also just put the final touches on her new showroom and studio space in Collingwood. She’s in a good place, super content to be doing what she loves. ‘These days I never have Sunday night-itis,’ she says. ‘Running your own business is insanely stressful, but I feel more creative and in control than ever before!’
