Glosswood is a Perth-based business run by husband and wife team Peter and Pam Thomson.  From their factory in Perth, this industrious pair and their team create high quality pre-finished timber lining boards for all kinds of interior surfaces, including walls and ceilings.  Their boards are created from sustainably harvested plantation-grown paulownia timber, and are available in a range of widths and finishes, from Charcoal to Distressed White, Possum (which is a rich dark brown), Jetty (a blue grey) and Clear Ash, which has a light, Scandi feel. I don't believe we've ever dedicated a post to pre-finished boards before (!!) but there were a few key points I thought made this a story worth sharing!  First up, all Glosswood boards are made in Australia, in their factory on the outskirts of Perth.  Here, Peter and his team work closely, constantly refining their processes and developing new natural stains and finishes. Secondly, Glosswood are known for their water based low-VOC (water based) UV curing process - a process which took many years and research to perfect. 'It's a careful balance to colour the timber this way, but ensure the beauty of the woodgrain can still be enjoyed, and give that wonderfully tactile look and depth that only real timber brings to a space' explains Pam. Both Pam and Peter have been in the timber industry since the early 1990's, but launched Glosswood in 2004 with the vision to create timber boards that retained the integrity and beauty of real wood and native timbers, but didn’t require logging of native forests. This journey lead them down an interesting path, experimenting with various plantation timbers and travelling widely to find and develop a UV coating system to create their own range of floorboards. As with all pre-finished boards, one major drawcard of Glosswood's range is they are all created sealed and ready to walk on, with a tongue-and-groove profile, so they are super simple to install and require no sanding or finishing after installation.  They're also incredibly versatile - suitable for use either vertically or horizontally on pretty much any interior surface, from floor to walls, ceiling or cabinetry. 'We are extremely passionate about the beauty of woodgrain and the honesty and depth it brings to a home' says Pam. 'A beautiful timber grain has become an important tactile element in so many Australian homes today - we are loving the work of Clare CousinsHecker GuthrieDoherty LynchChris ConnellAriane Prevost and others who are using timbers in interesting ways in homes, interiors and commercial spaces'. Glosswood boards can be purchased from Bunnings and other good timber merchants, and is priced from $60.00 RRP per square metre.
