'Enzo' sideboards and side tables in American Walnut, 2011, designed by Rosanna Ceravolo
We spotted the work of architect turned furniture designer Rosanna Ceravolo at Design : Made : Trade in Melbourne recently, and were instantly smitten by the detailed pattern and texture in her work, particularly the 'Enzo' cabinet and side tables, pictured above. Rosanna studied architecture at Melbourne University, completing the course in 2008.  In her final year of study she undertook a timber furniture workshop class, but it wasn't until last year that she had the opportunity to pursue this passion professionally, when commissioned by a residential client to create a range of furniture. Rosanna's pieces are created collaboratively with local makers.  'I am the principal designer but I can’t take credit for the exquisite craftsmanship!' she says. 'I design all the pieces and outsource the fabrication to local artisans.  That process involves a bit of workshopping with the furniture makers to work out the best way to bring the design to fruition'. Rosanna says her main objective with each piece is to achieve a balance between function, comfort and aesthetics. 'I know they say form is supposed to follow function at all costs, but I really do think there is an important place for beauty in this world!' Rosanna admits. 'Having said that, furniture is meant to be useful and practical, so I always take into consideration how the piece will come to be used'. For all enquiries, contact details are on Rosanna's website.
