Today Abby and Katherine take us on a tour of their own creative spaces and we get to see how they each apply their skills and talents to produce the unique works at Golden Ink Collaborative. Talk about team work- go ladies! - Jenny x

So what does the Golden Ink headquarters look like? Well its not terribly glamorous but none the less it is where we are most productive and where our art evolves.

Different parts and processes are executed across a few ‘studio’ sites;

  • Firstly, and as of most recently, I (Abby) will start the process by cutting and carving images into a printing plate
  • It is then in Katherine’s lounge room that a bag of clay is transformed and moulded into greenware (unfired) jewellery pieces and pressed into my printing plates
  • These pieces then make their way into my home studio where each piece is hand painted or engraved
  • They are glazed (generally at my desk or kitchen table depending on the weather!)
  • They are transported to the kiln at Katherine’s
  • After the fire, the kiln is unloaded and a discussion is had at Katherine’s kitchen table over the finishing and home of the pieces
  • Final jewellery finishes are then made in Katherine’s studio/shed

Katherine and I both have passions and arts practices in differing fields and try to still practice this as much as we can. Katherine in gold and silversmithing and myself in printmaking. Katherine works from her home studio, mainly on works to do with her love of vessels.

Above is a little glimpse of where Katherine creates her wonderful work including her favourite tools and books.

I also make most of my work from my home studio but also, due to obvious constraints (my 1.2tonne printing presses!), from my spacious and peaceful printing studio in Mt. Macedon. Above is a sneak peek into my creative environment and obsessions!
