When I hear the phrase "multi-tasking, no-time-wasting super crafter" I think of Shannon Lamden. In between all the work she does, having 3 kids, blogging, playing netball and who knows what else, Shannon always seems to be making stuff. HOW? With her ace skillz and brilliant ideas like today's 30 minute cushion tutorial, that's how. - Jenny x

Got 30 minutes?? You can make this...

I am not fond of a person who says they don’t have time to do things. I don’t get it and I don’t believe you. You have time. You have nothing but time. You just chose to spend it doing something else, like savoring your tea or sleeping in or something like showering. I am a multi tasking, no time wasting super crafter. I am. I find it super satisfying having the washing machine on, the dishwasher going, the house just cleaned and something cooking in the oven. Damn you energy savers I’m using all my power at once. Anyway, my point. Look what I made in half an hour. Yes HALF AN HOUR. Do you have half an hour? You sure do. So get off your arse.

Step 1. Choose your fabric, cut it to desired cushion size. I chose bolster. I guessed the size. Lay it out on your makeshift ironing board. Or a pink towel just like I do. Not sure why iron is out as I didn’t iron anything at this stage. But I am prepared.

Step 2. Pin how you want your cushion to look. I lean towards a cross – I know WHAT A SURPRISE! Its easy, it matches stuff and I don’t have time to redesign the cushion wheel. I also chose some stripey panels to break it up and a black back. Yep, don’t all go calling me creative all at once. Sew the cross on. Sew the panels together. Stand on some skanky chair and snap it.

Step 3. Lay two layers on top of each other – nice side in. Pin those babies together. By now the back is obviously made. My cushions are all envelope style. I can’t sew zips. I don’t want to learn how to sew zips. I have no time for zips. Zips shit me. Envelopes do not. Trim the edges and make a nice rectangle. Or whatever shape. Because I’m a fairly sloppy sewer this part is a must for me. If you are neat and did proper measuring at the start – good for you.

Ta da!

Step 4. Flip inside out. You have a cushion. Look at the time, wow you aced it. That was so fast. But you know what? You don’t have an insert to fit in that stupid irregular sized pillow – you’re gonna have to make one. So you do and fill it with cheap ass hobby fill. Stuff it in and you’re done. The hobby fill gets all over your black jeans and up your nose, which leads you to having a weird plastic type of hay fever for the rest of the day.

But you know, you can save yourself the hassle and buy something I've already made!  Now that’s even faster.
