Today we are so pleased to welcome Ms Polka Dot of Polka Dot Bride! This week Ms Polka Dot will be sharing 5 of her favourite Australian Weddings, each as beautiful and unique as the next. Having just celebrated 4 years of Polka Dot Bride this can't have been an easy task - thank you Ms Polka Dot! - Jenny x

I am so excited to be blogging for The Design Files this week - it’s an honour to be able to share some of my favourite things on one of my favourite websites! I’m Ms Polka Dot (also know as Dorothy, Dot, Dottie, I answer to anything really!) and I write Australian wedding blog Polka Dot Bride.

Weddings for me are pretty amazing - they’re full of the most amazing design aspects (couture, styling, food, even cocktails!) surrounding the love of two people and the most important people in the world to them.

I’m pretty particular about choosing weddings for Polka Dot Bride. The weddings I choose are the ones that make me lose my breath. What makes a wedding wonderful to me is never about cost - it’s not about whether you used the most luxurious vendors or the ‘work from home’ cake makers. It’s simply about how you made your wedding day your own - whether that includes fairy floss & a circus performer or a red-carpeted aisle and a bouquet of cream roses.

This week, Jenny & Lucy asked me to show off my favourite Australian weddings.

An impossible task because I adore every wedding that passes through our pages - it’s like being asked to pick my favourite child! Instead I’m going to share some of my favourite Australian weddings that epitomise “Australia” to me. Australians have an amazing sense of relaxed glamour and style, we capture something I haven’t seen any other country master, and I suppose it’s just that wonderful Australian nature that we seem to inherit (perhaps it’s the lashings of Vegemite?).

So every day this week I’ll be sharing Australian weddings which have touched my heart and inspired me. Ones that will hopefully inspire you too!

Ellen & Simon

Ellen’s wedding is one that always comes to mind when I think of what I love about Australian brides. Inspired by 1930’s imagery, Ellen made her own blush pink wedding gown (and now runs her own label Lissom Yarn) when she married Simon amongst the trees on her mother’s property outside Berry, NSW.

Guests dressed in English finery and a violinist played Ellen down the “aisle” as she walked to meet Simon. The couple sourced furniture and accessories from local vintage stores and served Spanish tapas & a picnic style food to their guests. After dark, fireworks signalled the end (or the beginning?) of a beautiful celebration Ellen & Simon’s Vendors: Photography: Hanna Hosking of Hang Studio Ellen’s gown: Lissom Yarn Simon’s Suit: Joe Back The Tailor Flowers: Deny Christian Catering: Low Flying Duck Caterers Until tomorrow, - Ms Polka Dot x
