Great Dane Giveaway – The Moller Bench!

The Moller Bench in situ – swoon!

The classic Moller Bench – still handcrafted nearly 50 years on, by talented craftsmen in the Moller Factory in Denmark.

Oh my.  Can you believe it!?  ANOTHER incredible giveaway!  And this one seriously ups the ante.  Ooh la la.  Will my bandwidth ever recover!? Not likely.

NOW You may have noticed in the last few weeks that the very gorgeous Great Dane Furniture are now Design Files site sponsors!  I am secretly super excited about this as I have often admired the beautiful pieces in their Commercial rd store… SUCH stylish and unique pieces – well worth a visit if you haven’t been in recently!

This week Great Dane have a very special giveaway for you guys!  One lucky reader will win this classic Moller Bench seat – valued at $1100! I am not sure where there is left to go really.  Perhaps next year Hocking Stuart will offer some kind of real estate giveaway exclusively for Design Files readers :) Cross your fingers for that one!

The beautiful handcrafted Moller Bench is available in oak, walnut or teak, with a traditional Danish woven papercord seat in either black or natural.  The prize today is for a European oak bench with soap finish and natural cord.  Just imagine how smart this would look at the end of the bed, in the hallway or lounge room… ooh so posh.  And versatile!  The bench was designed in 1963 by Niels Moller, who started the J.L. Moller factory in Denmark in 1944.  The company thrives today, run by Neil’s son Jorgen, who maintains the Moller philosophy of handcraftmanship and production without assembly line.

Huge thanks to Great Dane for this truly amazing giveaway!!  You have one week to enter!  Simply leave a comment on this post between now and midnight next Tuesday November 23rd to be in the running!  If you subscribe to these posts by email, please don’t reply by email, just pop over to thedesignfiles.net to leave your comment!  (please note this giveaway is open only to Australian residents and perhaps if you live extremely far away from a capital city you may need to assist in covering costs for the bench to be shipped to you :)

*Update – one very lucky winner has been randomly selected – congratulations to commenter  #409 – Kelly!!  Thanks so much to everyone for this fantastic response, and of course to Great Dane for this incredibly generous giveaway!

Great Dane Furniture are in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – do pop over to their website for store details and to check out their beautiful range!

I have never felt more at home than when walking into Great Dane’s Commercial Rd showroom.

It made me feel like I’d stepped back in history, to a time when quality furniture really mattered, when craftsmanship was more than an advertising cliché.

The rich stories behind their pieces match your approach on TDF Lucy – where products are only as good as their producers.

    Well done.

I think that this would make a huggelit (an untranslatable Danish cosiness) to my little apartment!

Magrithe (see, I have named her already!) and I would love to have a morning chat over a cup of coffee or perhaps some smushis (little smorrebrod) Perhaps she would ask for a friend, a Hans Wegner wishbone chair perhaps.

Thank-you for adding a dash of Danish design to my morning. Everyone needs a little more ‘hugge’ (Danish cosiness) in their lives.

You have got to be kidding…. this is extraordinary. I see where you are going with your Hocking Stuart thought! Pretty impossible not to be drooling over this gorgeous sculptural piece of deliciousness. I think I love almost everything in the Great Dane store – stunning pieces that are so timeless they can be snuck into almost any kind of architecture – so no wonder I am post number 691! As a child, we had those Moller chairs in our dining room – which I always loved because we could stick little message flags in between the weavings…seems sacrilegious now!…but I think those lovely chairs {with a Parker teak dining table} instilled a sense of beauty in simplicity which has stayed with me ever since. Ah, memories!

    We saved and saved
    and scrimped and saved
    and somehow…
we managed to buy a house.
And it’s full of things donated and borrowed
    but nothing really ‘us’,
nothing permanent – just temporary furnishings till we can afford the real deal-
    Which feels a little lame.
which is why the Moller bench
    such a beautiful piece
would cement our feeling of home
    and eternal thanks
    to Great Dane.

  818. November 17, 2010. 12:46 pm

Recently a new home owner. A single fronted weatherboard cottage. “Cot Cot” is it’s name. A recent DIY renovation when we moved in forced us to sell our dining room table and chairs. We now have a recycled timber table from a factory, however we cannot use it because we have no seats. 3 months worth of dinners at the coffee table…
Apart from the perfect fit for our decor, this seat would be made to use. I can imagine sitting, with my partner…side by side, hand in hand for many a breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What a generous giveaway. and so many comments. Moller would be welcome to join our cottage anytime.

its raining at the moment. it’s cold too. stuck here in rural queensland, fondly thinking of my melbourne so very far away. i think with that moller i would have the only piece of furniture in stanthorpe queensland not made in laminate. well, that’s not true. i have a couch with fabric on it too.
