I have blogged The Humble Vintage once before... It's Melbourne's only vintage bike hire service, run by local multi-tasker and all-round nice guy Matt Hurst.  Such a super simple genius idea - please revisit my original post if you don't remember much about it...!

One of the coolest things about The Humble Vintage is Matt's brilliant printed cycling guide map, entitled ‘Melbourne for visitors and casual cyclists’!  Designed to mimic old school over-sized folded maps, it is beautifully designed and thoughtfully written - and the brand new Winter map is out now!  It includes 3 new cycle routes for rugged-up winter cycling expeditions, and lots more entertaining tidbits about Melbourne winter happenings!

Matt's writes the guide himself, with contributions this season from Andrew Ashton of Studio Pip & Co, and a brilliant 'hidden heritage' tour by local architectural brainiac Rohan Storey of The National Trust.  Perfectly succinct, yet witty and informative, I suspect this little publication may soon end up superceding it's origins as a humble cycling guide!  I especially love Matt's intro -

'Welcome. Melbourne is a long way from anywhere else. Thank God it's a wonderful place to be.'

Amen to that :)

‘Melbourne for visitors and casual cyclists’ comes free with the Humble Vintage bike hire service, but you can also buy a copy of the new Winter edition (just $3.00!) from Metropolis, The Paperback, The NGV Australia bookshop Fed Square, and Readings in St Kilda & Carlton.
