Market Lane specialty coffee roasters in Prahran - All the lovely pics here are taken by Tony Mott,  and styled by Claire Larritt-Evans.
Melbourne just can't seem to get enough good coffee, can we?  I mean, there is great coffee to be had on almost every street, in almost every neighbourhood... and yet, it seems there's always room for one more gorgeous new coffee spot!  And they're ALL always busy! (I mean... have you tried to get a table at Seven Seeds recently..?!) I have been meaning to post about Market Lane for agessss... Melbourne's newest Coffee connoisseurs opened their doors late last year, and doesn't it look pretty!?  Their space in Prahan Market was designed by Deborah Lacey of DJL architect, with styling and interior details by Claire Larritt-Evans, a super talented Melbourne stylist / busy young Mum who I originally met through Megan Morton a couple of years ago!  It was Claire who first showed me these pics of Market Lane when she had just completed the project last year - wow, gorgeous or what?!  Somehow Deborah and Claire pulled this place together in just three and half slightly crazy months last year! Now that is impressive! Anyway of course I'm babbling about the beautiful design of the place, but rest assured, Market Lane do also seriously know their coffee!  Owners Fleur Studd and Jason Scheltus each come from a background in speciality coffee - Jason trained as a roaster at Monmouth Coffee Company in London, and Fleur owns Melbourne Coffee Merchants - a speciality green bean importing business which supplies boutique coffee roasters around Australia including  St Ali, Seven Seeds, and North Melbourne's Auction Rooms. The opportunity to open Market Lane arose unexpectedly in the middle of last year, when a site became available at Prahran Market.  For Fleur and Jason it was an opportunity too perfect to pass up! Fleur and Jason are passionate about their coffees - they source unique coffee blends from around the globe, roasting them carefully in small batches on site to bring out the unique regional characteristics in each coffee.  They're keen to pass on their enthusiasm for the provenance of their coffees through free sampling and public 'cuppings' (tastings) every day at 10am.  They also do simple, minimalist food - lovely pastries from Dench Bakers, and delicious 'Bread and Jam' which consists of Dench Baguettes, French Lescure butter and Annie Smithers Jam.  Simple and yum. Both Fleur and stylist Claire are loyal TDF readers (thankyou guys!).... and so Market Lane have dreamed up a truly generous giveaway for Design Files readers! The prize - 6 x 3 month Market Lane Coffee Club subscriptions (valued at $125 each!) : 6 winners will receive 250g of freshly roasted coffee, delivered every 2 weeks to their front door or office (within Australia) for 3 months! How awesome is that!?  The gift that keeps on giving for 3 whole months! ...So every morning whilst you are checking your emails and loyally reading The Design Files (he he!), you can be drinking your freshly brewed Market Lane coffee! The winners will be able to choose between a 'roasters pick' membership (a different coffee every fortnight for pour over / plunger / stove top) or the 'espresso' membership (suitable for people who have an espresso machine at home). *please note this giveaway is now closed and winners have been notified by email!  Thanks so much for all your entries! WOW nothing like fresh coffee to get people excited! Huge thanks once again to Market Lane for their generous prizes.
