Tango Eight : Comic Anthology

A Recipe for Love by Adi Firth, published in Tango issue 8 – Love and Food from Cardigan Comics

Tango is an Australian comic anthology put out by Cardigan Comics in Carlton ‘almost annually since 1997′…. and I feel very lucky to have recently received a complimentary copy of the current issue, ‘Love and Food’ (yay!).

Love and food are two of my favourite things, and what’s more, I have such a soft-spot for food illustration! (remember Maira Kalman? and Marcela Restrepo‘s gorgeous food illustrations for Nylon mag?). So needless to say I am probably a little biased… anyway, details aside, I really loved flicking through this fantastic and very extensive collection of work by local comic artists! 70 artists from Australia and New Zealand are represented, and it’s a really varied, entertaining and easy read. I thoroughly recommend grabbing a copy and supporting this local creative venture!

Tango Eight is supported by Arts Victoria and published by Cardigan Comics. It’s available at Polyster Books in Brunswick st, Brunswick st Books, Readings in Carlton, Greville st Bookshop in Prahran and also many more places listed here

My favourite pages below….

Lettuce Hearts by Mirranda Burton

We Love Food – but not as much as we love each other by Gina Monaco and Glenn Smith – a gorgeous celebration of this couple’s love for food and each other!

Twistie of Fate by Daniel Reed – a kooky, slightly dark story illustrated in beautiful detail

Hot Plates by Toby Morris – the life-cycle of a relationship spelled out meal by meal!

ps) Should also say that Tango Eight was launched recently at Mr Wilkinson, my partner’s bar in Brunswick… They absolutely filled the venue and according to all reports it was a fantastic night (photos here)!

Keep up to date with all Cardigan Comics new on their blog here!

20′s graphics for NYE in Melbourne

Did you see this ad on the back of the ‘M Magazine’ in the Sunday Age on the weekend…? Must admit I am usually not the biggest fan of art deco styling (shock horror!) but I do love these graphics! The bold geometric shapes and faceted diamond in the centre especially… it’s a really attention-grabbing design.

I don’t, however, have $355 (or $600!) to spend on New Years Eve so unfortunately this was little wasted on me :) (actually, the more current info on the website is promoting tickets at $100 so perhaps not too excessive if you’re up for a posh NYE in Melbourne!). For more info try here.

Dean Kaufman part 2

How could I forget this image when I posted about Dean Kaufman last week? It is perhaps my favourite one of all.

The Prada building in Tokyo I think…? And all white, again.

Love it. :)

Sandra Juto’s white Christmas

It’s beautiful and hot and sunny in Melbourne this week… just as Christmas should be on this side of the world :)

….but I think some part of me must be craving a white Christmas…. I’m very drawn to white at the moment. First Dean Kaufman‘s beautiful photos, full of crisp white angular shapes – now these stunning bright wintery photos by Swedish artist/illustrator Sandra Juto. Beautiful.

PS…. Just been trawling the archives of Sandra Juto’s blog, and I’m equally mesmerised by the incredible photos from her recent trip to NYC… too beautiful. Couldn’t resist sharing more of her stunning work. I could trawl her site for hours…
